Interview: Ryan Frailich from The Aquadolls Goes Solo

Ryan Frailich from psychedelic surf punk band, The Aquadolls, is taking a different route and initiating his solo career. I was able to get some insights as he begins his new journey and found out what led to his decision.
Here’s what he had to say:

What inspired you to start your solo career? I have always wanted to make my own music. For the past couple of years I thought about it everyday and now I finally feel like it’s the right time.

How long have you been around music? What made you want to be a musician? I have been around music since high school, so for about ten years now. Music as an art form and the way it affected me is what inspired me to be a musician.

Who are your musical influences? My influences range from everything from Amy Winehouse, Fiona Apple, Christina Aguilera, Grimes, Kacey Musgraves, Lorde, Madonna, IMG_9925.jpgRihanna, Spice Girls to The 1975, Travis Scott, Michael Jackson, Devendra Banhart, John Frusciante,
Panda Bear, and Pharrell.

What do you like most about music? I like all of the ways that music can reach people and how it can communicate so many messages and emotions.

What kind of music are you working on as a solo artist? Will it be completely different from The Aquadolls? I’m working on all different styles of music, because before I was putting myself in a box and that’s what prevented me from being able to feel inspired to make music. Yea, the music will be completely different from The Aquadolls.

Would you say you enjoy your new solo career more than The Aquadolls? I enjoy the fact that I produce all of my own music and that it is completely from my point of view. I can’t say if I enjoy it more than The Aquadolls right now because I’m still working on writing and recording.

When can we listen to your new music? You can listen to my new music this summer when I release my first singles.
