Interview: Geist

One of the reasons I love doing interviews with artists is because I usually learn something new in each and every one of them. Before getting to know more about LA based DJs/Producers, Geist, I never really thought about how DJs today portray themselves. I mean, it’s obviously about the music, but there’s also a lot of gossip and fame surrounding these DJs that it makes you wonder what a true DJ really lives.

I came upon Geist’s Twitter one day, and that’s when I first heard their music. Their Soundcloud is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. I’m obsessed with all of 11008570_819426981426395_2048599784433644098_ntheir songs and it’s one of my go-tos now. Not even kidding, but the first thing I did when I heard their music was brag about it to my best friend. YES they’re that good! As I started reading more about them I had so many questions. So here’s a short interview with Geist:

How long have you been working with music and what brought you guys together?

We have been in the industry for a long time working with hundreds of musicians and producers behind the scenes. It was finally time for us to make a public facing movement and thats when Geist was created.

What’s the story behind your name Geist?

Geist in German means ghost. We don’t exist, the music exits and thats how we like to keep it. The focus at all times should be on the music not “celebrity” DJs. The industry has become a circle jerk of DJs trying to become celebs and thats what we are against. We want the focus at all times to be on the music and our family. We aren’t super stars we are a family that accepts everyone. The freaks, the weirdos, the ravers, we all exist as one big family and treat each other in that manner.

What made you guys decide to hide your identity? And do you think things would be different if you didn’t?

Music over everything. We are not interested in fame, only making an impact on an industry that has become something the fans don’t want anymore.

What are your future plans for 2016?

We will continue to make music and are setting up a tour for end of year 2016.

Do you guys tour a lot and if so where can we find you guys?

We have a secret show in January which will be our live debut.
